Tools of Learning

Whether you are a teacher, a parent, or in any other way teach youth, please listen to this short film. You and I learned with the tools that were available to us. Tools that were familiar to us. The tools have changed. More strongly than even I ask that you consider closely how you interact with youth and consider carefully what limits you are putting on the tools available to them, those tools that are familiar to them. Re-Think

The university I work at has had a running campaign for a long time with the keyword 'think.' I wanted to focus on that word for a for a moment with respect to how the world is changing. Understand that current world leaders grew up in a world where inventory and capital were the resources with which to run companies, organizations, and governments. With that in mind, understand that the world has changed. The most valuable asset to any organization now is information. With current technology, the way we obtain, exchange, store, and consume information is changing. I purpose that it is time to Re-Think. Re-Think the world around you and how you interact with it. Now, I bear no mastery with the written word, but hope you will allow me a few minutes of your time to share what Dr. Michael Wesh, at Kansas State University can more eloquently convey: "Information R/evolution" "The Machine is Us/ing Us" - Final Version "The Machine is Us/ing Us" -...

Alternative to Photoshop

Devyn asks: '...I was wondering if you know of anywhere safe to download adobe photoshop 7.0 or better for FREE?' Hi Devyn, You ask somewhat a loaded question. The 'correct' answer is no, most software, even something as old as Photoshop 7.0, is still maintained by the copyright holder (or released as new versions), Adobe in this case and thus isn't something you can download. In truth the answer is a hesitant yes, I know places you could download it, perhaps even relatively 'safe,' but I would highly recommend another avenue. If you are looking for a free solution with most if not all the same functionality of photoshop, I recommend GIMP . GIMP stands for GNU Image Manipulation Program, but don't let the name scare you. It's a relatively easy to use and its a fully functional image editing suite. Because it falls under the GNU general public license , it is freely distributable and you can download it without charge (and better yet, you aren't c...

Changes in Malware Trends

So for those of you that haven't already heard, there is an increasingly irritating category of Malware known as Scareware . It basically warns you through a dozen different means that your computer is infected, when in fact, clicking on or responding it a number of different ways to the notice is what actually triggers the infection. If ever you get a notification that your computer is infected by a pop-up, kill it with task manager, DO NOT CLICK IN THE WINDOW or even the small x that typically closes the window. Even that much starts a rather irritating process. Already been hit? Tools like virus scanners and most free spyware detection and removal programs just won't cut it. But recently there has been a huge surge of Malwarebytes ' Anti- Malware users as its a free program known to kill the most harassing scareware including the famous Antivirus 2008 variety . In other news, Advanced Windows Care has been replaced with Advanced SystemCare Free . I still l...
